Blue Marble Spa: Hyatt Regency Mission Bay

The Blue Marble Spa is famous in San Diego for  full and true commitment to the environment: incorporating natural and organic skincare products in all of their massage and beauty treatments & minimizing the use of hot water at the spa.

I came in a bit early on my spa day so that I could use the fitness center, and I highly recommend it! The harbor view from the gym was gorgeous, and definitely inspired me to run a few extra miles during my cardio sesh. Luckily, chilled towels were available afterwards. Also, I loved the fact that extra sets of  headphones were provided just in case you forgot yours (which I did that day).

While the fitness center was awesome and well-maintained, my favorite part about this spa experience was the pool area. The area  boasts absolutely gorgeous grounds and plenty of open space, along with 2 water slides for the young and/or young at heart (super fun, highly recommend trying both slides).

The massage itself was nice and relaxing, mainly Swedish techniques, made even more enjoyable by the generous use of organic sunflower, jojoba, and olive oils.

Afterwards, I made use of the steam room and ‘rain’ showers, where I noticed that, once again,  organic and natural products reigned supreme. Also, prior and post treatment, you were offered the use of the lounge, where you could indulge in a variety of teas, waters (mint, orange , and cucumber), and snacks (think dried fruit, nuts, and chocolate bits).  Loved all the small touches found here!

In all, it was an enjoyable experience and I highly recommend Blue Marble Spa.

Manchester Grand Hyatt: Spa Kin

For my second Wellness Week adventure, I decided on the Manchester Grand Hyatt Spa Kin experience. I booked a Swedish Massage and arrived early to give myself ample sauna and steam room time. The sauna allowed you to control the temperature and provided water to heat up the rocks with. The steam room (one of my favorite spa extras) truly allowed me to unwind as my muscles relaxed.

The spa itself is gorgeous and luxurious, with a large relaxation room stocked with treats (including tasty muffins, tea, dried fruit, cucumber water and dark chocolates).  My massage would be best described as a nice rubdown heavy on  kneading and long strokes, quite basic yet incredibly attentive at the same time.

The Kin Oasis Pool is an adults-only pool inside the Manchester Grand Hyatt, overlooking the San Diego Harbor. Cabanas and lounge seats are arranged  throughout the area and the water remains  heated at 80 degrees (perfect temp).

Hilton Bayfront Hotel: Spa Aquazul

It goes without saying that I had to take advantage of some amazing spa treatment deals during Wellness Week, so the Hilton San Diego Bayfront Hotel was my first stop. I decided upon the Island Rhythm Massage, a flowing treatment that focuses on rolling strokes and motions combined with a bit of acupressure. While I normally prefer deep tissue massages that get into the nitty gritty of muscle work, today I felt a relaxation massage was just what I needed.

I arrived at the Hilton an hour and a half prior to my treatment to take full advantage of the fitness center, pool, steam room and relaxation area. After some killer cardio, I was pleasantly surprised to learn that chilled lavender towels awaited me in a nearby cooler. I strolled by the pool, checked out the view and considered going for a dip, but decided my body was craving some steam room action instead.  The steam room had an incredible eucalyptus aroma and further chilled towels (cucumber this time) were provided.

The massage itself was spectacular! After providing me with a selection of fragrances, my masseuse ended up using an Oolong Oil (combination of green tea, lavender and lime blossom) for my treatment. I left the Hilton feeling full refreshed and highly recommend this spa experience to all in need of some pampering. Note: there’s no better time than Wellness Week to treat yourself!
