Ulta Beauty: New Location in Point Loma

Ulta recently opened up a new location in Point Loma, making many San Diego ladies very happy! While there are 4 other locations in our area, they are all a lot further up north: located in La Jolla, Carlsbad, San Marcos and Oceanside. Now, we no longer have to make the drive to have access to all the Ulta goodies (hooray)!

Ulta is known for being the 1 stop beauty shop, carrying everything from high end cosmetic & skincare lines to lower end products you would find at your local drugstore. In addition, they have a huge fragrance selection, TONS of hair products & tools, and even a beauty salon located within the store itself.

Upcoming Event: Sassy City Chicks Fashion Bash at Horton Plaza

Sugar & Spice Studio in Cardiff-by-the-Sea

My favorite place to get a Shellac manicure, Sugar & Spice Studio in North Park, has expanded to include a brand-new location in Cardiff-by-the-sea. While there are plenty of places that claim they do excellent Shellac manicures in San Diego, I truly believe that Sugar & Spice Studio is the best out of all the ones I have tried! I have been a devoted fan of the process every since I first got introduced to Shellac several years ago ,  and it’s safe to say that I always leave happy after getting my Shellac manicure from the lovely girls at Sugar & Spice.

                  

For those not familiar with the process, Shellac is a nail polish that lasts for up to 3 weeks with absolutely no chipping! Unlike gels and acrylics, Shellac isn’t harmful to your nails and, in fact, has been known to strengthen your nails and improve their overall appearance & health. This is due to the fact that unlike other methods, a Shellac manicure involves NO filing and very minimal soaking!

     

I had been curious to check out the new Cardiff-by-the-sea location and had my chance the other day when I was heading up north. Felmie, my manicurist, was very sweet & did a superb  job on my manicure, and the salon itself was tres cute:

     

     

     

One of the reasons I prefer Sugar & Spice Studio to other salons in San Diego is the fact that they always use the original CND Shellac polish. Several salons I have been to claim they do Shellac, but instead used other products which ended  up harming my nails. Another reason I love this salon? The girls that work here are all FANTASTIC: always super friendly and fun to talk to! Annnnnd..last but certainly not least, they always have candy and delicious treats to snack on (my weakness).  In all , this is definitely my favorite place for a Shellac manicure and the Cardiff-by-the-Sea location is just as amazing as the North Park salon. If you’re ready for a manicure that lasts weeks without chipping & leaves nails healthy, I highly recommend Sugar & Spice Studios!

     

     

My only regret about my pop-in at the Cardiff-by-the-Sea location is that I didn’t have a chance to stop by and visit with my friend Alicia Dunn, who resides there.

Lush Fresh Handmade Cosmetics: Fashion Valley

Lush has long been one of my favorite places to get face masks and bath products, so you can imagine my excitement when they opened up their location in Fashion Valley last December. With over 700 locations throughout the world, it was beyond time we had access to the goodies! Lush prides itself on using only the freshest organic fruits & vegetables, ethically sourced oils, and sustainable ingredients in all their products. From sugar scrubs and bubble bars to the best-smelling soaps and face masks, Lush covers the entire spectrum of beauty needs.

   

Lush believes in “long candlelit baths, sharing showers, massage, filling the world  with perfume and in the right to make mistakes, lose everything and start again”.

    

    

    

Many products require no packaging, such as the massage bars, bath bars and solid shampoos. When packaging is necessary, like in the case of face masks and body gels, Lush creates it to be fully recyclable and reusable. Bring in 5 empty, clean black pots to receive a complimentary Fresh Face Mask, a gift from Lush for doing your part to save the world. Once you bring em’ back, the empty black pots are then recycled to make more packaging or to be re-used as art material.

   

   

Here are some things I picked up on my last venture to Lush in Fashion Valley:

    

Of the above, my favorites were the Cupcake Face Mask : (Rhassoul Mud, Cocoa Butter, Cocoa Powder, Peppermint, Spearmint, Sandalwood Oils),  Rose Argon Body Conditioner : (Fresh Spring Water, Almond + Brazil Nut Oil, Vanilla Pod Infusion, Fair Trade Shea Butter, Goji Berry Juice, Rose, Lemon Oil, Cupuacu    Butter, Cypress Leaf) and the Bubblegum Lip Scrub: (Sugar, Jojoba Oil, Flavor).

    

This Honey Trap Lip Balm (Oat Milk, Almond Oil, White Chocolate, Shea Butter, Honey, Vanilla, Sweet Wild Orange Oil)  is also def one of my personal favorites!

In addition to carrying some of the freshest cosmetic products around, Lush is known for their incredible customer service. You can try any and all products within the store so that you know exactly what you’re getting before you buy it! The Lush staff is always super helpful and they not only recommend the best products for you skin type and needs, but also give in-store facials + treatments.
